With more than thirty years of experience, R. Nikolaus Schmidt, MD, brings an extensive level of expertise to ADVENT. Dr. Schmidt shares ADVENT’s vision of simple in-office solutions to address sinus and sleep concerns and is passionate about helping you live better. A native of Michigan, Dr. Schmidt completed his undergraduate work at the University of Michigan and went on to receive his MD from the University of Michigan Medical School. He completed an internship in general surgery at Wayne State University and continued at Wayne State University for his residency in otolaryngology. Board-certified in his field, Dr. Schmidt incorporates advanced technology and minimally-invasive techniques to provide the best possible care available today.

What can I expect on my first visit?
At your first visit, we'll focus on finding the facts with an exam to ensure we understand the root of your issue. We'll talk with you about your goals and design a plan specific to you. ADVENT is the only ENT clinic that provides you with a complete Breathing Triangle Evaluation.
Do I need a referral from my primary care physician?
Most insurance does not require a referral. If yours does, we can let you know.

How long does recovery take?
Most patients experience very little (if any) downtime. You can resume normal activity on the day of the procedure depending on how you're feeling. You may feel like you have a slight cold the day after your procedure. It is recommended to avoid any excessive or strenuous activity for 48 hours after the procedure.
